Researching landscapers and acquiring estimates takes a lot of time and can be confusing. However after the first consultation with Gary James from Landscaping By Design we felt we were on the right track. He showed up on time for our appointment and listened to our plan. Based on his experience he provided well thought out detailed suggestions to our ideas regarding stonework for each side of our driveway. When asked, he returned a second time to go over it all again in detail making sure we both had the same understanding of what work would be done. Once we agreed on his services, work began on schedule. Gary consulted with us often during the process of completing the job, always in a friendly and polite manner. His employees were also very polite, experienced and thorough in their work. Although Gary was not required to be present during all the work, he stopped by often making sure things were going as planned and updated us accordingly. Any new thoughts and or changes to the original agreement were brought to our attention for approval. The stonework was exceptional and the completed job has more than met our expectations. "We had a hillside that was in need of refurbishment. We had removed shrubs and ivy that were past their prime, and realized that a good deal of erosion had occurred in prior years. While seeking landscaping help, we noticed the sign for LBD at a neighbor's house. The LBD work looked impressive, but the best was yet to come. From the initial meeting to the final walk-through after project completion our experience with LBD was fabulous. The project consisted of a stone overlay installed on the front of our house, designing and building a stone patio with steps and a walkway, and redesigning and landscaping part of our backyard. Gary provided us with lots of creative ideas and computer-generated pictures that allowed us to envision the end result before the project started. He provided recommendations that saved us money and easily handled last minute changes we requested. We had a crumbling brick stairway, a deteriorating concrete walkway, and a makeshift brick and flagstone stairway that was unsafe. All needed to be replaced. Gary James of LBD showed us how the flagstone stairway was inherently unstable because of bad drainage. He worked out a plan to correct the drainage with two retaining walls. He introduced us to pavers and other landscaping materials that were new to us and beautifully suited to our situation. His expert crew built a new stone and masonry stairway, installed pavers over the concrete walkway, built two attractive retaining walls, and replaced the flagstone stairway with one made from large natural stones. The overall effect was striking. We were so pleased that we had LBD come back to add about 200 feet of stone pathway and three more retaining walls to remediate drainage problems.
